The Interfaith Alliance Foundation held a STOP THE HATE VIGIL March 4th in Dupont Circle Washington DC. The Alliance stated objective is embraced in one word "TOGETHER." The Alliance says "As people of faith and good will, we stand together in the belieft that hate and exclusion are neither religious nor democratic values and we pledge we will never forget." Candles were lit preceding memorials to James Byrd, a father of three beaten to death before being dragged behind a truck two miles leaving scraps of his body in the bloody trail behind him, Matthew Shepard, honored by Dilawar Singh Dhatt reading the famous words of Pastor Martin Neimoller reminding participants that not speaking up is of greatest consequence. Other speakers included Nawar Shora, American-Arab anti-discrimination Committee, Jim Dickson, American Association of People with Disabilities, Maria Keisling, executive director, National Center for Transgender Equality, Angela Arboleda, National Council La Raza, Rev Dr C Welton Gaddy, President of the Interfaith Alliance. Speeches were concluded with a song that stays within our culture... We Shall Overcome, someday.
