Blocks away DC's first Emancipation Parade fizzled before it started. The few hundred activists gathered in Edward Murrow Park for their rally before marching towards Dupont Circle with their backs to the World Bank.

Police and protest coordinators worked together to make the march successful.

The protesters were buoyed by news the WTO is deliberating the debt of the third world countries.
